Havaianas
Self-proclaimed “world’s greatest flip-flop,” this brand has made quite a name for itself in the U.S. over the past few years. The name Havaianas is Portuguese for Hawaiians and is a tribute to the island as a popular vacation spot. However, the inspiration for the footwear comes from a Japanese style sandal called the Zori.
Not your ordinary rubber sandal, Havaianas have been featured in multiple fashion magazines such as Elle, Self and Teen Vogue. In their home country of Brazil celebrities and dignitaries can be seen flip-flopping down the street. They’ve even trickled their way onto New York Fashion Week runways.
The “addictive” nature of these little flip-flops is attributed to the company’s secret rubber formula, which is super silky soft and flexible. Havaianas also keep their designs whimsical and amusing. Did you know the company makes limited edition and “hard to find” styles? They’re collector favorites!
Although you may have only heard of Havaianas recently, the brand was actually launched in 1962. Since then, over 2.2 billion pairs of flip-flops have been made and sold all over the globe. If each pair was laid end to end, the line would stretch around the globe 50 times!
