Tribeca
The admired fashion label that is Kenneth Cole was actually born of a film called “The Birth of a Shoe Company.” Well, sort of. Twenty years ago when the young designer wanted to quickly sell his shoes out of a truck in Midtown Manhattan he ran into a little problem.
Kenneth Cole was unable to get a permit for his truck to sell shoes, but he could get one to film a full-length movie. So he changed the company name to Kenneth Cole Productions, got a permit and the next day began “shooting” conveniently across the street from the New York shoe show. While cameras were involved for a few minutes, the infant company sold 40 thousand pairs of shoes in a little over two days.
An offspring of the established fashion giant, Tribeca by Kenneth Cole is a line of original designs at surprising prices. The brand is characterized by contemporary sequin and beading details that top new and innovative materials. It’s very hip and definitely fresh.
Today, the company name is still Kenneth Cole Productions, Inc., serving as a reminder, “to the importance of resourcefulness and innovative problem solving.”
