ALS Awareness Month

May is ALS Awareness Month.

Another year has passed since my husband, Brian, was diagnosed with ALS. I am so thankful and happy to report that, four-and-a-half years after his diagnosis, he is still able to schlep stacks of shoes around the store.

I have focused much of my time and energy in battling this, as yet, incurable disease. One year ago, in collaboration with Haute Shore Handbags, we created the Greyson “Rise” tote. In one year’s time, through sales of the “Rise” tote, Lori’s and Haute Shore have contributed over $35,000.00 to I AM ALS, our patient-led movement in the fight to find effective treatments and therapies for ALS. I AM ALS targets 100% of these donated funds to ALS research.

ALS is a neurodegenerative disease that prevents a person’s nerves from communicating with their muscles. ALS patients lose their ability to walk, talk, swallow and, eventually, to breathe on their own. The course of the disease is different for each person but most people survive only 3-5 years after their diagnosis.

ALS is currently incurable. But, there is hope! More awareness, more research and more funding are the keys to, one day, discovering treatments and cures for ALS. Your purchase of a “Rise” tote will help hasten that day’s coming.

From all of us at Lori’s, Haute Shore, I AM ALS and the entire ALS community of patients, caregivers, researchers, family and friends, we thank you for your involvement in, one day, creating a world without ALS.

ALS Advocacy looks great on you!!
